A kinetic energy projectile comprises a sub-calibre penetrator and a discarding sabot which surrounds the said penetrator concentrically. In order to manufacture the projectile more cost-effectively, the discarding sabot (11) which surrounds the penetrator (10) concentrically is of integral construction. The penetrator (10) is mounted in the discarding sabot (11) such that it can be displaced axially. The two are pushed from the rear by means of the pressure disc (14). After the end of the pushing process, the discarding sabot (11) is stripped off to the rear. The fin assembly (15) which is necessary for stabilisation is mounted at the front of the discarding sabot (11) and is carried with said discarding sabot (11) when it leaves the penetrator (10). In contrast to conventional discarding sabots consisting of a plurality of parts, disadvantageous influences on the flight path (trajectory) of the penetrator during the process of releasing the discarding sabot from said penetrator are avoided at the same time.
