The cistus or rockrose branch tips are macerated in a suitable hot or coled solvent, the extract passed through a water separator and filter, and the solvent removed in a still by indirect heating and a current of steam mixed with air, leaving the pure gum. The solvent is recovered in a condenser and re-cycled.
