The apparatus comprises the series resonant circuit (20) including a primary winding (56) of the transfomer (22) coupling the converter to an output circuit, the pair of power switches (52,54) each, when on, forming a series resonant circuit from the source to a resonant tank circuit, the power switches (52,54) alternately turned on/off so that sinusoidal current pulses alternately flow in the opposite directions in the primary winding (56) at a frequency depending on input/output conditions.
