<p>PURPOSE:To reduce any clogging in a filter member in a unit, in which each one end of a large number of passages that are partition-formed by filter members is closed with a closing member, by making the area of opening part at the passage inlet side greater than that of the closed part. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust passage of an engine main body is provided with an exhaust purifying unit 3 which collects carbon particles in exhaust gas by means of a honeycomb shaped filter member 30. This exhaust purifying unit 3 is provided with a large number of passages 31, 31' and 32 that are arranged lengthwise and crosswise partition-formed by the filter member 30 and with closing members 33 formed at either inlet or outlet side of these passages in order to close one end of each passage. In this case, the passage 31 and 31' whose outlet sides are closed with the closing members 33 and the passages 32 whose inlet sides are closed with the closing members 33 are arranged for, example alternately, and the sectional area of the passages 31 or 31' that is open at its inlet side is made larger as a whole than that of the passage 32 whose inlet side is closed.</p> |
