<p>An electrocoating machine (10) has a frame (12) supporting a series of tanks (16) containing solutions for electrocoating work pieces such as can ends. A wheel (20) is mounted for rotation on the frame (12) and has a plurality of workpiece holders (70) spaced about its periphery. Each workpiece holder (70) has a pair of spaced, flexible fingers (72, 74), each having a free end which is cantilevered from the wheel (20). As the wheel (20) rotates, cams (186, 188) displace the free ends of the fingers (72, 74) at a point shortly before they enter the electrocoating tank (16). A workpiece transfer apparatus (86) places a workpiece adjacent the displaced fingers at a pickup point. The cams (186, 188) then release the fingers (72, 74) so they engage the workpiece in spring-loaded gripping relation. The wheel (20) carries workpieces from the pickup point, down into the electrocoating solution and then to a rinse conveyor (22).</p> |
