In filling machines with a filling pipe which is mounted thereon and on which folded tubular packaging casings are attached in order to be filled with pasty filling material, in cases in which the diameter of the packaging casing is considerably larger than the diameter of the filling pipe, especially when relatively fluid filling material is processed, there is the problem that the air inclusions get in the folds passing through the packaging casing filled with the filling material and form undesirable air bubbles. In order to avoid this disadvantage, provision is made for mounting on the filling pipe, at a particular distance from it, an outer pipe as a suction pipe which surrounds only part of the filling pipe and leaves free the end facing away from the filling machine and which is provided, in the vicinity of the part facing the filling machine, with a connection for a suction-extraction device, by means of which the air can be suction-extracted out of the folds of the packaging casing located on the filling pipe. <IMAGE>
