The detergent disclosed is a mixture of (A) 35 to 65 wt. % of sodium metasilicate, (B) 4 to 25 wt. % of at least one polyanionic builder substance of the class of the polyphosphates, the zeolites, nitrilotriacetic acid, the carboxylic acid (co)polymers and the polyphosphonic acids, each in the form of the sodium salts, (C) 10 to 30 wt. % of a non-ionic tenside and (D) 2 to 15 wt. % of a water-soluble, wax-like compound from the class of the polyethylene glycols with a molecular weight of at least 1 100 and their alkyl ethers. For use in washing machines, the moulded detergent is accommodated in a separate storage chamber and the quantity required for the particular washing process is crushed in a programmed, mechanically-operated device.
