PURPOSE:To accurately measure the amount of oxygen in a specimen even in a low oxygen atmosphere, by simple constitution wherein a solid electrolyte, a measuring electrode and a reference electrode are provided. CONSTITUTION:The sensor element 1 of a probe 20 is arranged to a pipe 21 through which a gaseous specimen, for example, having high temp. of about 7000 deg.C or more passes and a potentiostat 22 is operated to apply constant voltage so that a measuring electrode 5 becomes a positive one and a reference electrode becomes a negative one. By this method, an ion current flows by the oxygen contained in both of the reference electrode 6 and a solid electrolyte 4 at the beginning of voltage application but, since the reference electrode 6 is sealed from the outside, the electrode reaction with oxygen is not generated in the reference electrode 6. Therefore, the movement of oxygen is eliminated after the elapse of this transitional period and a constant ion current flows. Hereupon, the current value due to ion conduction after the ion current becomes constant is read by an ammeter 23. At the same time, the temp. of the element 1 is measured by a thermometer 24. |
