<p>Defective stitches frequently occur at the beginning of a stitching operation with a sewing machine provided with needle feed, because the starting threads are not tightly gripped in the needle plate as a result of the elongated stitching slot. In the new process, the needle (13) is positioned prior to the beginning of stitching in an end region (S1) of the stitching slot (50b) in order to execute a predetermined number of starting stitches.</p> |
