Method of producing a tampon and system for implementing the method

In the production of a tampon from a web of absorbent material containing meltable fibres, the meltable fibres are attached on only one edge of the web (3) over a width which corresponds at least to the length of the tampon. The web (3) thus comprises two fibre strips (5 and 15) only one (5) of which comprises the meltable fibres. This web is folded in zigzag shape under this edge strip (5) in one folding direction (4) and subdivided into longitudinal pieces in a separating device (7) which are provided for formation of a tampon body. The folded web and the longitudinal pieces are rolled up in a winding device (10) such that the edge strip is located on the outside. Heating for the purpose of cross-linking the meltable fibres can be carried out before, for example via a heating device (25), or after rolling.
