The invention relates to a roof rack for a motor vehicle, which roof rack is composed of a supporting tube with supporting feet at both ends, on which feet there are mounted fixing clamps. At least one supporting foot (4) can be pivoted by means of an articulation (3) and is held against the supporting tube (2) by means of a tightening screw (9). The tightening screw (9) is screwed into a nut part (18) in the supporting tube (2) and the pivotable supporting foot (4) can therefore be braced in the direction of the roof rack on the roof of the motor vehicle. In order to be able to insert the tightening screw (9) into the nut part (18) in a simpler fashion, insertion surfaces (23, 24) are provided according to the invention. In one embodiment of the invention a guiding component (21) is used which is inserted into the supporting tube (2) and is held by the nut part (18) which takes the form of a crossbolt. <IMAGE>
