<p>A self-threading dental anchor (10) for insertion into a blind channel (52) of a tooth (54), the channel (52) having a tapered seat (66), the dental anchor (10) including an upper retention section (12) to provide retention of a superstructure, and a lower anchoring section (16) connected thereto for engagement in the tooth channel (52) to threadingly anchor the dental anchor (10) to the tooth (54), the anchoring section (16) having a helical buttress-type thread (20). The buttress-type thread (20) has a planar lower surface (22) facing towards a distal insertion end (24) of the anchoring section (16), and an angled upper surface (26) tapering inwardly towards the upper retention section (12) to provide a crest (28) therebetween, the crest (28) having a knife-like cutting edge. The distal insertion end (24) is tapered to provide a slope (38) thereon equal to the tapered seat portion (66) to provide a mating angled configuration. Preferably, a depth-limiting stop member (14) is disposed between the retention section (12) and the anchoring section (16).</p> |
