An apparatus suitable for carrying out this method comprises a heat exchanger (8) fed via a water supply pipe (9), a gas burner (1) assigned to said heat exchanger (8), to which gas burner combustion air is supplied via a combustion-air duct (2) by means of a blower (3, 4) and burnable gas is supplied via a gas nozzle (5).
