Modern typewriters and office machines of similar construction have type carrier carriages which can be moved along the recording medium and on which, in addition to the type carrier, an ink-ribbon cassette and an ink-ribbon transport device including its electrically operable drive means are also arranged. The type carrier carriage thus has many components and assemblies to be mounted. The aim of the invention is to simplify the ink-ribbon transport device and its mounting on the carriage and to reduce the production and adjustment costs thereof, the functional reliability being constantly guaranteed. This aim is achieved by the side wall (15) of the carriage (4) having a journal (19), on which a gear (20) with one clutch half of a free-wheeling clutch, which gear can be brought into engagement with the drive pinion (21) of the drive motor, a spur gear (24) of a gear train with the other clutch half, and a carrier (10), on which the drive wheel (37), which can be locked against back-rotation by a pawl (36), is rotatably mounted with the firmly connected other plane gear (35) of the gear train, with a bearing bore (44), are arranged so as to be slipped on one after another and, via catch elements arranged on the carrier (10), can be engaged on the carrier (10) of the side wall (15) in such a manner that the free-wheeling clutch can be held securely and the gear train can be held in engagement without play.
