A tilting device for a vehicle headlight with a tiltable element which determines the direction of the light beam, and a securing element for securing the tiltable element in a tiltable fashion. The tilting device comprises a housing (26) which is attached to the securing element, a drive shaft (40) which is secured to the housing (26) and an adjustment rod (46) which is secured to the housing (26) and can be displaced forwards and backwards in one direction. The housing (26) contains a worm drive (61) which is driven by a motor (54), a worm wheel (69) which engages with the worm drive (61) in order to move the drive shaft (40) when it is rotated and a detector device (73) which senses the position of the adjustment rod (46). The worm wheel (69) is arranged parallel to the drive shaft (40) and the detector device (73) is provided coaxially with respect to the worm wheel (69). <IMAGE>
