A process intended to assist in handling a floating load from a ship or a floating platform, characterized in that it consists, between a known handling stage comprising the towing and/or relative positioning of the load with respect to the ship, and a known handling stage comprising the hoisting of the load onto the ship, of a stage of positioning and hooking said floating load, equipped with a hooking device in its upper portion, with respect to a line tightened at the water surface between the ends of at least two arms hinged with respect to the ship.
