PURPOSE:To not only improve converting efficiency but also enable two elements to be independently optimized by overlapping two kinds of photoelectric conversion element whose light absorbing layer has a different forbidden bandwidth at a wavelength region which can be absorbed by at least one of the two photoelectric conversion elements through a transparent insulating member. CONSTITUTION:Two photoelectric conversion element 19, 25 whose forbidden bandwidths are different are laminated through an insulating layer 22. For the insulating layer 22, a material which is transparent at a wavelength of light absorbed by the photoelectric conversion elements 19, 25 and which has a mechanical strength sufficient to form a thin photoelectric conversion element. Accordingly, a wider range of wavelengths of light can be used, whereby a high converting efficiency can be obtained. Further, since the insulating layer 22 is provided between the upper cell 19 and the lower cell 25, it is possible to draw a current separately from the upper cell 19 and the lower cell 25, thereby simplifying the design. |
