A developing apparatus for developing an electrostatic latent image comprises a latent image carrier, a developer carrier, and alternative current voltage applying means. The developer carrier is spaced oppositely from the latent image carrier. The alternative current having a frequency which varies with time is applied to the space between the both carriers. Toner particles are selectively caused to fly from the developer carrier to the latent image carrier under the electric field of the AC voltage by the alternative current voltage apply means.
