Sheets 38 from a sheet-handling machine are directed along alternate paths in counted batches by a deflector 1 which is shifted by a lever 4. An eccentric 7 rotates once for each machine cycle and reciprocates a rod 12 carrying a portion 16 which normally does not engage a member 17 carried on a three-armed lever 18. When a solenoid 15 is energized, the rod is raised and actuates the lever 18 to release a latch 26 so that at the correct moment in the cycle springs 30, 31 actuate the lever 4. A rocker lever 32 carrying the springs is then rotated to the position 32a, and on the next actuation of the solenoid a latch 27 is released and the lever 4 moved in the opposite direction. |
