In apparatus for washing dust from gases, the dust-laden gas enters through an inlet 12 the unobstructed lower portion of a column 1 containing water sprays 2 and then passes through a passage 5 containing a baffle 6 into a chamber 8 before leaving via an outlet 14. Preferably a spray 10 is arranged as shown in the mouth of the passage 5 and the ratio of the crosssectional areas of the lower portion of the column and the passage 5 is between 5: 1 and 10: 1. The position of the baffle 6 may be adjusted. |
