The invention concerns a method of making a pressure- tight plug on a Vaseline-filled cable. The aim of the invention is to plug a filled cable at the transition to dry and possibly pressurized cable. The plugging is carried out by compressing a shrinkage fit without cleaning the conductors of filling material but with at least one drainage opening arranged outside the shrinkage fit. When compressing the shrinkage fit the plugging material melts together with the cable insulation and forms a pressure-tight plug and at the same time forces the filling material away from the plug area and out through the drainage opening.
