PURPOSE:To obtain a glass filament product with superior dispersibility for glass paper with improved opening property, by converting a glass filament strand treated with a surface treating agent into filaments and by cutting the filaments. CONSTITUTION:A glass filament strand treated with a surface treating agent is converted into filaments and cut. One of water-soluble surface treating agents such as soluble starch, polyvinyl alcohol, methylcellulose, polyethylene oxide and polyethyleneimine or a mixture thereof is used as the surface treating agent. Polyvinyl acetate, paraffin, etc. as water-insoluble treating agents may be added. The water-insoluble treating agents are not applicable to conventional chopped strands because the opening property is deteriorated. The glass strand is converted into filaments by introducing the strained into a high-speed flow of air or by applying high voltage to the strand after spraying water. |
