PURPOSE:To obtain the photographic characteristic of the negative gradation with high contrast even at the time of developing the title material with a developer having a low pH by incorporating a specified compd. in a photographic emulsion layer or an another hydrophilic colloidal layer, in the photosensitive material mounted with at least one layer of silver halide emulsion layers thereon. CONSTITUTION:The compd. shown by formula is incorporated in the photographic emulsion layer or at least one layer of the another hydrophilic colloidal layers, in the photosensitive material mounted with at least one layer of the silver halide photographic emulsion layers thereon. In formula, A1 and A2 are each hydrogen atom or one of said groups is hydrogen atom, another of the groups is a sulfinic acid residual group, G is sulfonyl or sulfoxy group, etc., X is an aliphatic, an aromatic or a heterocyclic ring group, R is a group shown by formula II. The total carbon number of groups X, G and R is >=17. Thus, the photosensitive material having the photographic characteristic of the negative gradation with very high contrast, even at the time of developing the photosensitive material with the developer having the low pH is obtd. by incorporating a small amount of the compd. shown by formula I in the photosensitive material.
