The invention enables characters or signs to be painted on all kinds of support. It is a stencil made of paper or plastic with an adhesive face covered with a protective film which is removed at the time of use. The stencil includes, at its top, a non-adhesive tab enabling it to be taken off after use, and horizontal and vertical reference marks enabling it to be aligned with the other characters or signs.
