Photoinitiators for the preparation of crosslinkable polymers

Polysilanes which are linked to the Si atoms having at least one hydrolysable substituent and which polysilanes have a molecular weight of from 500 to 50000 and a UV absorption between 220 and 380 nm are employed as photoinitiators for the polymerisation of free-radical-polymerisable, ethylenically unsaturated compounds, giving crosslinkable polymers which crosslink on storage in air for a number of hours in the presence of atmospheric moisture. The polysilane photoinitiators according to the invention are particularly suitable for the production of crosslinkable or crosslinked coatings.
