Solar installation for the production of hot water, characterised in that, in a collector storage device, e.g. consisting of a pipe coil, the domestic water is heated directly by the solar radiation. At the end of the storage pipe there is a temperature sensor which controls an open/close valve. Once the contents of the pipe have reached the set temperature, e.g. 50@C, the shut-off valve opens and the heated contents of the pipe, a few litres, are conveyed into a pressureless storage vessel by the cold domestic water flowing behind it. As soon as the cold water reaches the temperature sensor, the valve closes and the contents of the pipe can again be heated by the incident solar energy. The storage vessel fills up in portions. Since the installation works on the direct principle and its conception avoids any mixing with the cold water flowing behind, optimal utilisation of the trapped energy is possible. Even when, in overcast weather, only scattered radiation is available, domestic hot water temperatures are achieved which are not possible with the previously known installations.
