CHARACTER PRINT QUALITY CONTROL DEVICE

PURPOSE:To eliminate an error due to the influence of an edge and to realize the highly accurate control of the print quality by obtaining the feature value of a character group from a picture element having a small gradation difference to the periphery receiving no influence of the edge. CONSTITUTION:The gradation signals are supplied from an input means 11 for each of plural divided picture elements of a character printed matter to be controlled and then stored in a memory means 15. A stable picture element extracting means 16 extracts only the picture elements having the stable gradations that are not affected by an edge and have the small gradation differences to the peripheral picture elements out of those picture elements stored in the means 15. Based on said extracted picture elements, a processing means 51 performs an arithmetic process to extract the feature value of a character group showing the print quality as a gradation histogram. The histogram is evaluated by a print quality evaluating means and the result of this evaluation is sent to an output display means 54. Thus it is possible to eliminate the error due to the edge influence and to attain the highly accurate control of the print quality.
