In the case of a method for controlling and monitoring a number of identical or different bolt welding devices, by means of which welds of metallic bolts to metallic base material can be carried out in the case of arc bolt welding, a constant sequence of square-wave pulses having a period of 20 ms is produced as a control clock to control a welding cycle, which sequence is derived from the 50 Hz frequency of a single-phase or three-phase alternating current. Furthermore, each welding cycle is always started only during a zero crossing of the alternating current in a specific, fixed direction, that is to say with the front edge or rear edge of a square-wave pulse, and each individual section of a welding cycle is always an integer multiple of the square-wave pulse period. Furthermore, a mean value of a predetermined number of test welds is formed for each individual section of a specific welding cycle for each of the number of welding devices, and this mean value is then stored in a memory such that it can be called up. Finally, in the case of the method according to the invention, a variably adjustable bandwidth tolerance is specified, related to the amplitude of the stored mean value.
