THIN FILM MAGNETIC RECORDING DISC AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE: To obtain a discrete track disk having fine track pitches by forming a continuous layer in such a manner that the surface height of the layer in the area between tracks of a thin film magnetic recording disk is same as at least the surface height of the continuous layer in the area on the surface of plural tracks. CONSTITUTION: An aluminum alloy disk for a discrete track thin film disk is coated with a nickel-phosphorus plating film to obtain a substrate 10, on which a continuous film 12 of a magnetic alloy is formed to about 300Åthickness by sputtering. Then a supporting layer 14 of a material which can be chemically etched is formed on the magnetic film 12. The supporting layer 14 is formed to about 1000Åthickness, then the disk is baked and a second layer 16 of a photoresist is formed by spin coating on the supporting layer 14. The surface height of the continuous layer in the area between tracks is made same as the surface height of the continuous layer on the surface area of plural tracks.
