PURPOSE:To improve thermal shock resistance and room-temperature strength by adding ZrO2 partially stabilized with Y2O3 to mullite and ZrO2 partially stabilized with MgO and calcining the resultant mixture. CONSTITUTION:A calcined compact of ceramics obtained by adding 10-45wt.% ZrO2 (1.5-4mol%, preferably 2-3mol% solid solution content of Y2O3) partially stabilized with Y2O3 to a system containing mullite (3Al2O3.2SiO2) as a principal component and 10-45wt.% ZrO2 partially stabilized with 8.5-10.5mol% MgO and calcining the resultant mixture in the air (e.g., at 1,450 deg.C for 2hr). The above-mentioned calcined compact of ceramics is capable of exhibiting thermal shock resistance up to 400 deg.C temperature difference. |
