Mfr. of steel tools with high wear resistance and dimensional accuracy is described. Atomised powder of e.g. tool steel is compressed fully the thermal isostatic compaction to give a homogeneous structure. This moulding has the shape and dimensions of the finished tool. It is heated to over 1000 deg.C and coated with 1-12 microns 6-10 microns of one or more hard materials by chemical vapour depoution. This is an integral part of the heat treatment. This heat treatment provides a suitable base for the coating so that it does not some loose in impact. Also the homogeneous structure of the tool prevents it deforming during the chemical vapour deposition and heat treatment. (Provisional Basic previously advised in week 8343) |
