A collapsible handlebar structure for bicycles, mopeds and the like comprises a stem 11 adapted to be applied to a bicycle head tube (not shown), two handlebar members 12 each comprising a block 15 pivotally mounted at 16 in a U-shaped housing 13 secured to the stem 11, and a locating wedge 14a movable into engagement with the blocks 15 by screw means rotatably supported in the housing 13, each block 15 having two inclined faces 15a, 15b either being engageable by the wedge 14a to hold the members 12 either in an operative or an inoperative position. In an embodiment (Fig. 2) the screw means 14b support a compression spring 17. In another embodiment, the screw means 14b supports a spring 17 located in a recess 14c<SP>1</SP> in the handle 14c and bearing on a bush or washer 14d bearing on the outside of the housing 13. In yet another embodiment two wedges are used. In a further embodiment a wedge is moved between the blocks by movement in the thickness direction of the blocks and is held there by a toggle or other lever structure, the co-operating surfaces of the block and the wedge being stepped. |
