<p>A traction device (60) for mounting on a pneumatic tyre to assist in extricating a motor vehicle from snow, ice or mud. The traction device, generally U-shaped in cross section, is provided with a wide base (66) having an upwardly curving segment which results in greater gripping action when the device is mounted on a tyre.
