PURPOSE:To improve the fuel consumption rate by integrally fixing a mechanically plastic surface layer onto the undersurface of a cylinderhead set close to the mushroom-shaped surface of a valve or the top surface of a piston and narrowing the top dead center gap formed between the undersurface of the cylinderhead and the top surface of the piston. CONSTITUTION:When a piston 12 shifts towards a top dead center, an intake valve 13 is closed, and the air sucked into a cylinder chamber 21 is compressed, and pushed into the recess 13 of the piston 12 from a top dead center gap 22. The top dead center gap 22 is narrowed previously to nearly zero on the mechanically plastic surface layer 20 formed on the mushroom-shaped surface 19 of the intake valve 13. Therefore, the air quantity in the gap 22 is reduced, and the air quantity in the recess 17 can be increased, and each injection quantity of the fuel which flows into the top dead center gap 22 and the flame in combustion into the top dead center gap 22 is reduced. Therefore, combustion is improved, and the fuel consumption rate can be improved.
