[Also in Division C3] Cross-linked resins are obtained by reacting an unsaturated bis-imide where D is an olefinically unsaturated divalent radical and A is an at least C 2 divalent radical, in a molar ratio between 1À2 and 50 : 1 with a diamine H 2 NBNH 2 where B is a divalent radical of not more than 30 carbon atoms. The reactants may first be heated at 100‹ to 250‹ C. to form a prepolymer which is cross-linked at 350‹ C. Numerous suitable bis-imides and diamines are specified. In examples the former is maleic N,N<SP>1</SP>-4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane-bis-imide, maleic N,N<SP>1</SP> - 4,41 - triphenylmethane bisimide, maleic N,N<SP>1</SP> - m - phenylene - bisimide or maleic N,N<SP>1</SP>-4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenyl ether bisimide and the latter is bis-(4-aminophenyl)- methane, bis-(4-aminophenyl) ether, or 1,1-bis- (4 - aminophenyl) - or - (4 - amino - 3 - methylphenyl)-cyclohexane. Reference is made to French Patent 1,455,514 which describes polymers of the bis-imides and to U.S. Patent 2,818,405 which describes elastomers obtained by coupling them with diamines of higher molecular weight than those used in the presentinvention. The polymers may be foamed, or used for bonding metals or to prepare laminates based on mineral fibres or, optionally with fibrous or powdered fillers, for moulding. In examples the products are moulded or (Exs. 4 and 12) used to coat layers of glass fabric treated with gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane which are dried under vacuum and pressed to form a 16-layer laminate.</p> |
