<p>A method for preferentially oxidizing sulfide in a viscous, aqueous solution of a hydratable polymeric material suitable for use in hydraulically treating subterranean formations. The sulfide is oxidized by incorporating hydrogen peroxide and a free radical scavenger into the aqueous solution at a pH between 3 and 10. After oxidation of the sulfide the stability of hydratable polymers is at least as good as in the original solution.</p> |
