1,141,469. Toothed gearing; disc brakes. MIRRLEES NATIONAL Ltd. 14 April, 1966 [20 April, 1965; 16 Dec., 1965], Nos. 16440/65 and 53354/65. Headings F2E and F2Q. An epicyclic gear comprising parallel sunplanet-annulus trains coaxial with an input shaft 16 has the sun 15d of one train splined to the shaft 16, the suns 15c, 15b, 15a of the other trains being series-connected to the sun 15d by splined bobbins 16z, 16y, 16x. All the planets 19 are mounted in a common output planet carrier 13. Each annulus gear 21 has external teeth (22) (Fig. 2, not shown), engaging respective racks (23) axially slidable in bearings (24), the axial loads on said racks being reacted by pneumatically interconnected bellows (25). In Fig. 3, the external teeth 22a are formed on rings 26 disengageably connected to the annulus gears 21 by hydraulically engaged friction brakes comprising a plurality of axially movable pairs of opposed pistons 27 in the rings 26 which act on radial flanges of the gears 21. |
