1,073,623. Treating with magnetism. E. ELMI. June 9, 1964 [June 10, 1963], No. 23903/64. Heading A5R. Apparatus for treating with magnetism comprises an electromagnet 16, 17 energised by rectified alternating current and a field-diffusing device in the form of a magnetic plate 18 connected to one pole of the electromagnet and having one or more projecting ferromagnetic quills. Alternating current is supplied to a diode rectifier bridge 12 through a transformer 2, 5, a step-switch 8, and a changeover switch 7. The rectified output is supplied to the electromagnet through a pole-reversing switch 11. In a second position of the changeover switch, alternating current bypasses the rectifier. One arm of the rectifier may be shortcircuited by a switch 15 for half-wave rectification. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the field-diffusing device is in the form of a concave plate (22) having a conical magnetic member (23) at its centre. Two electromagnets may be employed, each bearing a field-diffusing device, and these electromagnets may be connected in series or in parallel. |
