The present invention relates to a building block of the self-aligning and self-blocking type. The block according to the present invention is provided with two main faces 1 and 2, an upper face 3, a lower face 4 and two side faces 5, the said upper and lower faces each being provided with at least one slope 6 inclined from the top downwards between the longitudinal centre plane of the block parallel to the main faces 1 and 2 and at least one plane parallel to the latter, and is characterised essentially in that it comprises on one side of the longitudinal centre plane, on its upper face 3, at least one slope 6 and, on its lower face 4, at least one flat surface 7 and, on the other side of the said plane, on its upper face 3, at least one flat surface 7, and on its lower face 4, at least one slope 6. <IMAGE>
