Water-soluble copolymer for the treatment of water and/or of aqueous media, which has the property of simultaneously inhibiting the phenomena of scaling and of corrosion, characterised in that it is made up: a) of a phosphoric monomer of formula: <IMAGE> b) and of at least one unsaturated ethylenic monomer which has available at least one acidic functional group of the carboxylic, hydroxamic, sulphuric or sulphonic type or one capable of generating at least one of these acidic functional groups. This polymer is applied with much effectiveness to the treatment of water and/or aqueous media contained and/or conveyed in industrial plants which are the site of formation of scale deposits on the walls or of corrosion phenomena.
