In a video signal processing circuit comprising a filter circuit (71) and having inputs (603-611) coupled to a video signal source for applying video signals thereto substantially corresponding to sequential lines, a contour direction correction circuit (601) is coupled to said processing circuit inputs (603-611) for applying contour direction corrected video signals to inputs (3-11) of said filter circuit (71), so that a better picture with fewer disturbing phenomena is obtained.
