An external rear-view-mirror assembly includes a casing 12 articulated by an attachment device to a base 5 to be fixed to a vehicle. The attachment device includes a rod 1 articulated at a head end 2 to the base 5 about a generally vertical axis and slidably engaged in a throughbore in a socket 6 supported by the casing 12 also for pivoting about a vertical axis. The casing 12 is biased into its normal, rest position of use by one or two springs 22 which act between anchorages 23, 24 on the casing 12 and the base 5 respectively. The casing is also retained in this rest position by the engagement of a resiliently-biased tooth 28 (supported by the base 5) in a recess 25a in the articulated head end 2 of the rod 1 but is pivotable about axis 37a from the rest position into a stable, folded, parking position, fig 2, in which the tooth 28 engages a second recess 25b in the head end 2 of the rod 1, and about axis 37b into the position in Fig 3. <IMAGE>
