In accordance with the method of the invention for loading piece goods (10), supplied on pallets (12), into a hold of a vessel, the interrelationship among the piece goods (10) is maintained until within the hold. The pallet (12) together with the piece goods (10) stacked thereupon is rotated 180 DEG in a clamped state. Then the pallet (12) is removed and the piece goods (10) are transported in a reversed state to a desired location within the hold. The interrelationship among the piece goods (10) is maintained during all the operations. The transport of the piece goods load (11) into the hold can be carried out by means of a cage (24), a C-shaped hook (33) or slings (40).
