In a method of producing gas from its liquid phase by vaporisation by means of a liquid, in particular water, in which the liquid is brought into heat exchange with the gas over a predetermined path and in the process the gas is passed through the liquid over several parallel flow paths until the liquid gas is vaporised, provision is made according to the invention for unheated liquid to be used for the heat exchange, which liquid is conducted along an open flow path, over which the liquid is conducted in an alternately rising and falling manner in concentric hollow cylinders at an essentially constant speed, the liquid volume being kept constant and being matched to the flow temperature and the gas throughput in such a way that it eliminates the growth of ice at the flow paths during the heat exchange, and for the gas to be conducted over all flow paths axially through all hollow cylinders of the flow path of the liquid in a rising and falling manner.
