The invention is particularly suitable for use in the production of pile fabrics incorporating natural woollen fibres. A continuous length of pile fibre is fed from feed means 18 and wound around the length of a rotatable course former 14. Adhesive is applied to a narrow face of the wound pile fibre through adhesive nozzle 52, said narrow face then being pressed against a backing sheet 114 by rams 148. The pile fibre, when stuck on the backing sheet 114, is then cut free from the course former 14 by cutting means 92 directed towards the other narrow face of the course former 14. The width of each of the wide faces of the course former 14 corresponds to the length of the pile fibre projecting from the backing sheet 114. The process is repeated in synchronism with indexed advance of the backing sheet 114 to provide a plurality of courses of the pile fibre thereon. |
