The process is characterised in that the pelts are pretreated with 0.5 to 2% by weight, preferably 0.7 to 1.2% by weight, of an aldehyde- or ketocarboxylic acid prior to tanning and are tanned in the customary manner, and tanning is then completed with 2 to 4.5% by weight of a mixture of chromium(III) salts, acid acceptors and aromatic di- or tricarboxylic acids or salts thereof. |
