The application refers to a process and a plant for removing volatile organic substances, such as solvents, from an exhaust air stream by means of an adsorber through which an adsorbent medium is passed. In addition, a desorber is provided in which, when a sufficient absorption capacity is exhausted, the adsorbent medium is reactivated with release of the organic substance in relatively high concentration. In order to increase the adaptability to different exhaust air flow rates and, possibly, to various concentrations of the organic substances entrained therein, the adsorbent medium in a pourable consistency is transported through the adsorber and to the desorber and from there back to the adsorber in a continuous circulation. The corresponding plant has, for this purpose, a transport device for the adsorbent medium.
