An ink reservoir of an ink jet printer contains an ink trough (5) for storing ink having an ink outlet (20) to supply the stored ink to a nozzle (13) and having an aeration opening (55) to aerate the ink trough (5), a movable outlet opening/closing device (19) for opening/closing the ink outlet (20), a movable opening/closing device (56, 57) for opening/closing the aeration device (55), and an operation transmission device (58, 60, 62) for the mechanical transmission of the movement of the outlet opening/closing device (19) onto the opening/closing device (56, 57) of the aeration opening in order to coordinate the opening/closing operation of the outlet opening/closing device (19) with the opening/closing operation of the opening/closing device (56, 57) of the aeration opening. When the outlet opening/closing device (19) is actuated for opening/closing the ink outlet (20), the opening/closing device (56, 57) of the aeration opening for opening/closing the aeration opening (55) is also actuated in a corresponding manner. Owing to the mechanical interlocking of the two operations, faulty operation of the opening/closing device of the aeration opening is avoided. <IMAGE>
