Metallic catalyst supports which can be heated directly by electricity, arrangements and operating process therefor. To obtain an approximately 0.2 to 2 ohm electrical resistor which can be heated directly by electricity, a catalyst support (80) is subdivided electrically over its cross-sectional surface and/or its axial extension by gaps and/or electrically insulating intermediate layers (88) or coatings so that at least one electric current path having the desired resistance is formed. This can be achieved, for example, by applying a meander-patterned coating to a stack (70) of flat (71) and corrugated (72) metal sheets. The catalyst support (80) can be heated shortly after a motor vehicle is started and hence reaches the required operating temperature for the catalytic reaction more rapidly. The exhaust gas emission is thus already reduced during the starting phase of the motor vehicle.
|
