A linear guidance and driving unit is proposed. This comprises a rail line 10 and a guide carriage 16 guided on the rail line 10. Cross pieces 34 and 36 are attached to the two ends of the rail line 10. A drive device 38, 40 extends between the cross pieces 34 and 36. A drive element 40 of the drive device 38, 40 is in driving connection with the guide carriage 16. The resulting drive force of the drive device 38, 40 lies outside the longitudinal axis A of the rail line 10. In order to be able to absorb tilting moments more efficiently, the guide carriage 16 is guided on the rail line 10 by circulating balls 18, 20. The supporting rows 18a, 20a of balls of the circulating balls 18, 20 bear against rolling tracks which are attached to the rail line 10 symmetrically on both sides of the longitudinal centre plane of the rail line 10. The force-transmission planes K1 and K2 of the supporting rows 18a, 20a of balls diverge towards the longitudinal plane of symmetry S-S and each enclose with the latter an angle of approximately 45 DEG .
